About Us

Why KAHC?

This is a really exciting time for KAHC as we move into the new London Area structure. Based at south London’s premier hockey venue in the heart of Honor Oak Park (SE23), KAHC literally has something for everyone. We’ve been around for a fair while now and have a pretty decent idea what we’re all about. So why us? Well…

  • Our facilities are second to none in south east London - everything on one site, a brand new (blue!) main pitch, a second pitch, a state of the art clubhouse…you can settle in for the whole Saturday!

  • We’re really well connected - just 15 minutes from central London on the London Overground (orange line) or National Rail, plus numerous buses (or lots of free parking if you prefer to drive), means it’s so easy to get to us from most parts of town.

  • We offer hockey for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned player wanting to compete in the top tiers of the London league, or whether you’re new/returning to hockey/simply looking to play at the more social end of the scale where games are super local (or somewhere in between!)

  • Training is first rate, with all sections fully supported by their own dedicated, professional coaches and a real focus on development

  • Whilst we were born our of KCL and maintain a really strong relationship with College, the club now has over 20 years of history behind it and has evolved into a regular, local club open to all (and there’s absolutely no requirement to have any association with either King’s or Alleyn’s to join us!)

  • We’re seriously social whatever team you play for - we pride ourselves on being a really friendly and welcoming bunch who love to win on the pitch but, just as importantly, want to have fun together off it!

Where we play

Our longstanding home is King’s College Sports Ground in Honor Oak Park, with facilities that are unrivalled in South East London. Less than 15 minutes’ train ride from Central London, we have 2 pitches (including a brand new smurf turf laid in Summer 2021) and a state of the art clubhouse all on one site.

So you don’t need to travel anywhere post game - the fully stocked, student price bar is waiting for you and you can support your clubmates from the covered balcony looking out over the main pitch. There’s tonnes of free parking on site and the ground is served by excellent public transport links, so you can reach us easily from all over London.

Women’s section

We currently field 4 Women’s teams spread across the new London Area structure, making us the ideal club for any player whatever level you’re looking to play at and whatever your experience. Our 1st XI play in London Prem, just one rung below National League, while our 4th XI is a development side that is perfect for those looking to get back into hockey or pick up the sport for the first time. And it goes without saying that all teams have a very strong social vibe!

Men’s section

Our 4 Mens’ teams also span the new London Area structure, with our 1st XI offering a very competitive upper tier level of hockey in Division 1, through to our more socially focussed 4th XI and something for everyone in between. All matches will be local and accessible via the public transport network, and whatever team you turn out for we aim to match efforts on the pitch with post match social in the clubhouse afterwards!

Coaching

Our Director of Hockey and Men’s Head Coach is former GB international, James Simpson, who brings a wealth of experience at the highest level. His training sessions are always the right mixture of hard work and enjoyment, and usually feature his meticulous notes from international duty. James is supported by a number of other external and internal coaches, and all teams receive dedicated coaching and development. Our training schedule also regularly features GK specific sessions run by external specialists.

A bit about the history of the Club…

Founded in 1999 by a bunch of uni mates, King’s Old Boys HC soon welcomed the creation of the women’s section a couple of years later. A combination of necessity and opportunity saw the club move from its original Wapping home a decade later, merging with Alleyn’s Old Boys HC and taking up residence at the school in Dulwich.

Eventually, the university fulfilled its promise to redevelop the old Guy’s Rugby Club ground in Honor Oak Park at which point we moved the whole lot to the spiritual home we never knew we had. While there has always been a strong affiliation to King’s College London, we have consistently and actively welcomed members from any and every background. The firm roots we have put down are enabling us to evolve into a much more traditional local club, without compromising our long-standing values of mateship, competitiveness, humility and the pure enjoyment of playing with some like-minded people.

More recently, this drive to broaden our playing base even further has seen the club start its own junior section, Honor Oak Panthers, which not only provides local kids a conventional platform to learn and play our amazing sport, but we also run extensive programmes in local schools too on an entirely self-funded basis.
