Honor Oak Panthers Junior Hockey

Our junior section was founded in 2018 but in just a short space of time has grown substantially to over 150 junior members and the club is thriving. Offering hockey for girls and boys from age 5 upwards, we cater for beginners through to seasoned performance players.

In 2021/22 we will be entering the new London Area junior leagues for the first time and we look forward to welcoming even more new members over the course of the coming season.

We aim to foster a really inclusive environment in which kids can learn and develop their skills, make new friends, understand the value of teamwork and, most importantly, have a lot of fun!

Why join Honor Oak Panthers?

Here are just some of the reasons we think you’ll love our junior hockey club:

  • We have a fantastic facility where everything is on one site (with plenty of free parking)

  • Parents can relax in our pitchside clubhouse while their kids play (coffee and the papers anyone?!)

  • We always seek to maintain high coach to player ratios so that our juniors get the best training experience

  • We offer progression into our senior development teams from the age of 13 where players are ready to move to that level

  • We pride ourselves on being an inclusive and really friendly, welcoming club

  • Alongside our Sunday club we spend a lot of time on our Lewisham community hockey programme, seeking to increase participation in team sport across the borough. By offering free hockey coaching in local schools, a free after school club and free holiday camp days we hope to bring the sport to a much wider range of children who might otherwise not have the opportunity to get involved in team sport.

When?

Our season starts on Sunday 19th September 2021 and runs through to the start of the school Easter holidays (with breaks for half terms and Christmas holidays).

Training takes place on Sunday mornings at the following times (TBC for coming season):

  • U6, U8 and U10 (up to Year 5) - 10:00 - 11:00

  • U12, U14 and U16 (Years 6 upwards) - 11:00 - 12:30

Matches and tournaments are also expected to take place on Sunday mornings. We are awaiting final details from London Junior League organisers and will confirm asap.

We also run a separate summer term programme, which also takes place on Sunday mornings.

Where?

All Panthers training and home matches take place at our home ground, King’s Sport Ground, in the heart of Honor Oak Park.

See our Find Us page for full details

Teamo

We use the club management platform Teamo for all club administration, including registration, membership fee payment, training and match availability, communication of important messages etc. Once you have confirmed your child would like to come along for a taster or sign up to the club, please register them on Teamo here.

It is important that you fill in all sections of the registration form so that we have complete details, including emergency contact and any medical information, for each junior member. The form is complete when you are prompted to download the app (so it is easiest to do this via mobile).

Please do download the app so you can manage all club related matters.

Fees

We offer all new propsective members a free, no commitment taster session before they decide whether to join.

After that we operate a convenient all-in membership which covers all training and matches/tournaments.

  • First child - £160

  • Siblings - £136 (15% discount)

The fee covers the whole main season from September through to the Easter holidays. Fees will be pro-rated for those joining partway through the season. The summer term programme is charged separately.

Please note that junior members who are also playing in our senior sides will only pay once, and will not be expected to pay senior club membership on top.

We don’t routinely offer a “pay as you go” basis as the administration involved is so time consuming and we are a volunteer based organisation. However, we do not want affordabilty to be a barrier to participation so if parents would like to discuss alternative payment arrangements with us we are very open to a conversation.

We are also able to offer some bursary assistance from this season. Please email info@panthershc.com for further information.

Junior members do not need to have their own hockey stick as the club supplies playing equipment.

All participants will need to wear shin pads.

We strongly recommend the use of gum shields.

Equipment

Get your kit!

Who doesn’t love a bit of stash?! Hoodies, playing kit and training kit are supplied by Tacklbag and are available to purchase via our web shop - click below to visit.

Please note that all players particiapting in matches/tournaments should have a playing top and socks. Again we can offer bursary support to cover kit costs where appropriate.

Fancy volunteering?

All sessions are overseen by fully qualified and DBS checked head coaches, who are ably supported by a cast of assistant coaches.

We’re a volunteer run club so we always appreciate any offers of support from parents who can commit a little time to help out, be that with coaching on a Sunday morning or assistance with administration, fundraising etc.

If you’re able to volunteer sometime please email info@panthershc.com for more information.

Lewisham Community Programme

We want hockey to be accessible to all children across the borough of Lewisham and are working hard to increase participation via our free in school coaching and after school club. In partnership with our sponsors Bulb and the Buffini Chao Foundation, we also offer free holiday camp days and are launching bursary support for promising young hockey players. If you’d like to be considered please email info@panthershc.com for further information.
